From Head of School Dave Skeen

January 26

Dear SDS Learning Community,

It’s been a wet and dark week, but the energy on campus has been heating up! There is so much that is happening on campus, I thought you might appreciate a snapshot of the variety of activities your students are engaged in.

  • first grade celebrated their snow day today. Despite the near 70 degree temperature, these students were very excited.

  • sixth graders presented their cell projects, having thought about how the components of the cell can be mirrored in everyday life.

  • Advanced Studio Art students completed their toothpick sculptures emphasizing repeating patterns, positive/negative spaces, and rhythmic movement. (Check it out on Instagram @spartanburg_day_arts)

  • Did you know that we have partnered with Ballet Spartanburg to offer after school dance classes for our preschool students? It’s pretty adorable.

  • Our second through fourth grade flag football players received their first playbook this week.

  • The Upper School had a rockin’ Homecoming dance this past weekend.

There is a lot going on at Spartanburg Day School, and we like it that way. As we prepare students for a life well lived, we seek to offer plenty of opportunities to engage with this learning community. I hope you all have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Dave
