From Head of School Dave Skeen

February 9

Dear SDS Learning Community,

We have some big SCISA basketball games tonight. It’s Senior Night for our girls and boys varsity basketball teams. Not only that, but victories tonight mean excellent seeding in the region tournament. As you have heard, today is a WHITE OUT in support of those teams. I encourage you to come to Milliken and Stone gyms in your whitest white shirts and be ready to cheer our Griffins on.

One of the wonders of a 2s through 12th grade independent school is that consistency and continuity of the educational and community experience. Our youngest students walk the same paths as our starting varsity basketball players. They know them by name and ask for autographs. They dream of putting on the jersey and the shoes and waving the crowd on. This school spirit – a shared spirit from our 2 year olds to our 18 year olds – is what makes our school so special.

If you joined us for the Parents' Community meeting on Wednesday, you would have heard me say that athletics plays an incredibly important role in bringing us together as one school. Moments like we will have tonight bind us to each other. We will all be wearing white; we are all Griffins; we all want to see our girls and boys achieve their goals. I know that striving for each other on the court translates to striving for each other in the classroom, in the band, in the art gallery, or in the science labs.

Finis Coronat Opus.

Seniors: let’s crown that work!

Go Griffins!

Sincerely,

Dave
