News from the Middle School

Week of Nov. 27

...our new Monday gratitude journals...

Dear All,

I hope you have had a nice time away from school. Our halls needed the respite as we will return to three pretty busy weeks. We'll try to keep things as calm and focused as possible, yet we have a science fair, a middle school play, a holiday band and chorus performance, our first set of middle school basketball games, a holiday door decorating contest, final academic units, exam preparation, and first semester exams. It's a lot. I know. We've got this though and so do your people...and so do you! (I will send an exam schedule to you on Monday with lots of information separate from this email as I want you to have it for quick and easy reference.)

Specific to this week, we have an SGLA meeting on Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m., our first Girls Who Code meeting on Thursday morning at 7:45 a.m., our first Middle School Science Fair on Friday, December 1st, and our first home basketball games for our middle school teams on Friday afternoon.

I am so excited about the Science Fair for our 7th and 8th-grade science students and appreciative of an immense amount of planning and preparation by Carol Hamilton who envisioned this and has made it happen. She's had some help along the way but this is definitely a result of her idea and willingness to see it through along with a lot of student effort and enthusiasm. I can't wait to see what our students imagine and discover through this process. We'll share more about it all in next Friday's Griffin News.

Regarding this Friday's home basketball games, we want to ensure you all know about our home basketball routine. First, we love for our students to fill the gym, cheer loudly, and be Griffins. To that end, we offer a study hall after school for students on the halls directly after school and have concessions for students to purchase during the games. We will supervise students during the game and simply ask that you walk in to pick up your child and not expect them to meet you in the parking lot. It makes me pretty nervous to send a child out to a car in the dark, and I cannot be in two places at once. So, please just park and walk into the Milliken gym to pick up your child. They will be sitting with us in the student section. The games begin at 4:00(girls) and 5:00(boys). They should be wrapped up around 6 p.m. I hope your child can stay and cheer for their Griffins. We have a lot of fun.

Okay, here's to the final stretch of the quarter and a few scenes from the week before break.

Monday is an A day~
