News from the Middle School

Week of Jan. 29

Dear All,

We've had a nice week in the middle. We needed a full five-day week. We ended with a dress-down day sporting our new Spartanburg Day and School team swag. The way this works is that each team (Spartanburg, Day, or School) collects points given out by adults in our middle school world who notice students considering the concept of kindness in some small or large way. As we heard from our 8th grade SGLA members on Thursday, sometimes, it really is the smallest of things. So far, all three teams have had a day in the sun which translates to a Friday when their team was in the lead and able to eat outside. Each quarter, the winning team celebrates in a large way. Mostly, it has been a nice way for us to focus on the small, often unsung things, that make being a part of a community so much better. You have terrific young people, you guys!

...this is a friendly advisory game of Frogger by the way...

Our Girls Who Code club met on Thursday morning and our 4H Club met at lunch on Wednesday. I am excited about these two newly formed groups and opportunities.

Members of our 6th Chorus sang the National Anthem at the Spartanburg Upstate basketball game on Wednesday. They were terrific. They will sing again this Wednesday evening.

And...our 6th-grade science classes presented science projects in their spare time!

Next week, we have basketball games on Tuesday and Friday. Please see the schedule for specific times and locations. A study hall will be offered next Friday, February 2nd for middle school students who want to stay for the games.

I hope you are well and that you are looking forward to some sun next week. We sure are.

Take good care,

Farrar
