Happy almost New Year! I hope your time away has been whatever it needed to be for you and yours.
Faculty return this week on Tuesday, January 2nd to prepare for students to return on Wednesday, January 3rd. I can't wait to see everyone.
I will send more information soon but the big fun in January at SDS is Homecoming. We celebrate throughout the week, and those dates are January 16th through the 19th with Homecoming games and festivities culminating on Friday, the 19th. It's a lot of fun and we dress up and carry on and get silly about school spirit.
There are two important dates in the second semester; one for the sixth grade and one for the eighth grade. I want to alert you to those dates and events as you(parents) will not want to miss them, and they are evening events.
The Sixth Grade Ball is scheduled for Wednesday, March 13th from 5:30-8 pm. I will send a lengthy and detailed email to the sixth grade parent class but know that this is a long-standing tradition in the middle school and a very sweet evening. Students will begin preparing for this event the week we return.
The Eighth Grade Recognition Ceremony is Friday, May 10th. This evening is just for eighth graders and parents and family members and the time on this is also 5:30-8 pm. I will send more information to your specific parent class, but please add that evening to your spring calendar.
A few reminders:
~We go outside every day for thirty minutes, so please remind your children to have clothing for cold weather.
~Planners seem to be in bad shape. I have a few extras and we can order more if needed. Binders are hanging in there, but we have a few extras as well. Supplies that are in good shape are important.
~Baskteball is in full swing and our Junior Griffins begin practice upon our return. Look for emails from your specific coaches for details.
~ Students may stay for a study hall after school and go to the Middle School home games. We have games on Thursday the week we return!
