News from the Middle School

Week of Feb. 12

... 8th-grade art...so beautiful...

Dear All,

We are fully into February and have had a nice week. A highlight was a performance by Brightstar Theater called Freedom Songs. It featured songs from the fields of people enduring the bonds of slavery to Ragtime to the Civil Rights movement. Our 7th and 8th grade Student Government and Leadership members have taken the theme and worked around it to create presentations of their own that will be featured at MS assemblies throughout February and into March.

The 6th Grade is learning to dance, and we began serious planning and preparation this week. This tradition is a favorite for all, and the 8th grade made sure to stop by and let the 6th grade know that it would be a good night and become a favorite memory of middle school.

We ended the week with a WHITE OUT for our Griffins tonight and a Lunar New Year lunch. It's an afternoon and evening full of basketball if you are looking for something to do.

Next week is a quick week with an early dismissal for students on Thursday(12:05) and school holidays for them on Friday and Monday. Faculty will engage in safety and security PD and training on Thursday and Friday, and we'll all enjoy a day off on Monday.

The big event of next week is our annual Where's the Love dodgeball tournament. It's the way we celebrate Valentine's Day in the middle. I'll send photos for sure. Students dress down in everything pink and red and we add a bit to their attire for the game. It's a good time. You are welcome to come and enjoy the fun. We play from 2-3 pm in the Stone gym on Wednesday afternoon!

Below are a few scenes from the week.

Energy in ecosystems: rainforest edition!

Our new way to display work on the halls. Drop by and take a closer look. These are all hanging in the 7th and 8th grade hall right now. There is great stuff on the 5th and 6th hall, too.

Learning to play cards in 5th grade Topics class and teaching Mr. Skeen to play, too!

Just dancin' at recess...

I hope you all find some time to do a little dancing this weekend! Take good care and see you Monday.
