News from the Middle School

Week of Jan. 15

Dear All,

We've had a nice week. I hope you have. We began with our Spelling Bee. I was so impressed by our spellers. Our top three spellers were Malcolm Cleland(3rd place), Alice McGee(2nd place and alternate speller for the Region Bee), and Elin Sarstrand(school winner and SDS representative in our Region Bee). Alice and Elin went thirteen rounds! Congratulations to all and good luck to Elin at Region! Thank you to Danielle Frías for organizing this event and to Christine Chapman, Trish Cobourn, Teresa Strait, and Will Strait for their support in making it such a positive experience.

SCHOOL won our division-wide competition this quarter and celebrated at lunch today. We will be getting our sweatshirts that identify our teams soon!

Our 8th graders sent a good friend off on a fun adventure. We miss her already! (I am going to post photos of this sweet class whenever I snap one this semester because I am already starting to get sad about them leaving us in the middle!)

Our 5th graders made marshmallow molecule models in science class! Too cute.

A bit of streak testing rocks in 8th-grade science!

The beginning of dance practice for the 6th Grade Ball.

And a big hello from D block theater class!

Our Junior Griffins played in their first away competitions on Thursday and had a terrific time and two wins! Our middle school teams had a few tough losses this week but are ready for competitions next week. Speaking of next week, it's finally Homecoming, one of our favorite weeks of the year. We love any chance to dress up or down and to show school spirit around here, and this week allows for all of that and then some. Get ready!

~On Tuesday, students may wear pajamas. (~On Wednesday, students will wear RED(5th and 7th grade) or WHITE(6th and 8th grade). ~On Thursday, students will dress from any decade of their choosing. ~And, on Friday, we all dress in SDS spirit wear.

On Friday morning, we'll have a pep rally at 9:00 a.m. in the Stone Gym. We have MS and Varsity games on Friday afternoon and evening. It's a wonderful time to come out and support the Griffins. There will be many concessions, tons of cheering, the Pep Band(!), and loads of fun.
